Which Foods To Eat on a Yeast Infection Diet

It may seem strange at first that consuming certain types of foods can actually kill off a fungus inside us.

But this is the reality of a yeast infection diet. It means there is an answer to removing Candida overgrowth from our systems.

Here are the two ways the yeast infection diet will help us

1 - It removes the foods - namely sugar, mold, and starches - that the Candida fungus lives on from our diet thus starving it.

2 - It also is a method of identifying those foods that could be damaging our immune system.

There are three parts to a yeast infection diet. Part one eliminates the infection, part two reintroduces foods and part three is where most foods have been reintroduced to our regular diet.

The first part of a yeast infection diet is the tough part. In a nutshell all sugars, starches, dairy, processed meats, gluten, stimulants, preservatives, molds and chemical additives are removed.

Here is a list of foods that are allowed during the elimination stage;

Vegetables - green and leafy is the key here!

Peppers - red, green, yellow, orange





Lean lamb




Eggs - limit to two a day

Nuts and seeds - almonds, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds - cashews and peanuts are the only nuts that you should avoid because there is a good chance that they contain mold.

Add some flavor

Most herbs and spices are allowed, in fact black pepper, garlic and cinnamon can actually be beneficial


There are certain oils that have a high smoke point, contain plenty of essential fatty acids and omega 3,6 and 9. Examples include coconut, flaxseed, sesame and sunflower.

The following foods are on the 'maybe' list because each yeast infection diet seems to have a differing opinion about whether they are allowed in stage one or not.

Yogurt - only if it is natural, unsweetened and contains live cultures

Cottage Cheese - same deal, unsweetened and check the ingredients if you are using a flavored variety.

Whole grains like buckwheat, quinoa, brown rice and amaranth seem to be a big sticking point in the first few weeks.



Some fruits that are low in sugar - like pineapple, lemons and rhubarb

The only real advice here is to do what you feel you can cope with and only have small servings of any of these. I know that I hate salads that don't have either lemon juice or cottage cheese on top. In fact sometimes I need both!

This elimination stage of a yeast infection diet should last at least two weeks.

Stage two of our yeast infection diet is when we start to reintroduce foods into our diet.

This needs to be done super slowly - one food at a time, one serving at a time.

Start with your simple carbos - whole grains, legumes or starchy vegetables. The chief part here is to note any reaction - this may be as slight as your heart starting to beat faster. If you do notice a reaction, then remove the food it for at least another two weeks. If you keep getting a reaction then you may have to do away with it from your diet indefinitely.

Stage three of the yeast infection diet is when you have introduced all of your usual foods with no reaction - break out the pizza!

Although you will feel great while on your yeast infection diet, you will not permanently get rid of your infection by using just the diet alone.
